Hello, I’m Leeya Rose!

Leeya Rose Jackson is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Detroit, MI, and thriving in Minneapolis, MN.

She works as an illustrator, painter, printmaker, creative director, filmmaker, and designer. Her work explores various themes of identity, with a focus on Blackness, neurodivergence, femininity, and queerness.

Her inclusive and uplighting artistic style is characterized by vibrant celestial and floral/botanical patterns, organic shapes as well as magical realism motifs. She particularly enjoys projects where art and design can come together to convey a message for social good. A MCAD–Jerome Fellow and Art Director, Leeya has created for Afropunk, Metro Transit, APM Studios, Sony Music, The Twins, MPR, Teach for America, Giphy, Heinz, and NPCA.

  • Q: What mediums do you use to create art?

    A: I primarily use digital tools and software, such as Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects, to create art. I also enjoy using traditional tools, such as acrylics, gouache, and markers/colored pencils, when the project allows.

    Q: What style of art do you create?

    A: I create art in a variety of styles, from detailed and intricate illustrative works to bold and graphic compositions. My style is characterized by vibrant colors, florals, intricate patterns, and organic, textural, mosaic-like shapes.

    Q: How long does it take you to create a piece of art/illustration?

    A: The amount of time it takes me to create a piece of art depends on the complexity and scope of the project, as well as the medium used. Generally, I can complete a single digital artwork in 2-3 days, and a large-scale illustrative project in up to two weeks. There is usually at least one round of sketches before going to color.

    Q: Do you work with all types of clients?

    A: Mainly, yes. I work with clients on a variety of projects, from editorial illustrations to digital animations. I'm also flexible about working with a range of clients, from small start-ups/authors to larger companies for more complex work. My only main requirement is that the client is mission-aligned and ethical in terms of actively supporting social good.
